This week I've been in Washington, DC, meeting with the Obama Administration and members of Congress about issues that are important to Angelenos.
Yesterday, I met with Labor Secretary Hilda Solis to discuss summer jobs programs for our young people that will keep them busy and give them valuable work experience. We also discussed the need for more funds for workforce training to prepare people for a new generation of green jobs.
I also met with representatives of the Department of Justice about the process for testing DNA evidence kits. The Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) currently requires a technical review of all kits that are tested in private labs before they are uploaded to the national database. This secondary testing has not found any errors in the past several years and the additional requirement means delayed justice for crime victims and their families.
It's been a productive and busy trip, but I'm looking forward to coming home to Los Angeles.
