Hollywood gets new garden

New seedlings were planted yesterday as part of the "first shovel" ceremony at a new garden that now grows in what was previously an empty lot next to St. Stephens Church in Hollywood.

The garden is being made possible through a partnership with the church, the non-profit organization Urban Farming, and Triscuit as part of Urban Farming and Triscuit's national effort to create 50 community-based home farms across the country.

Urban Farming's mission is to grow food on unused land to help uplift communities. In Hollywood, local residents will participate in cultivating the garden and enjoying the harvest of fresh produce. The photo is of participants planting the first seedlings of peppers, squash, onions, tomatoes and other vegetables.
