Groundbreaking for New Children’s Institute Campus in HistoricFilipinotown

Yesterday, I attended the groundbreaking for the Otis Booth Campus of Children’s Institute, a community service organization that provides a supportive, safe, and nurturing environment for more than 15,000 children recovering from trauma related to violence in their homes and communities. (In this picture, I’m with Mary Emmons, President and CEO of Children’s Institute, and Colleen Bell, a member of the Children’s Institute Board of Trustees.)

The Otis Booth Campus will allow Children’s Institute to significantly increase the number of children it serves. The new 48,000 square foot, LEED-certified campus is scheduled to open its doors in 2010. It will have space for a teen center, health center, and a family resource center. And, as an avid basketball player, I was very excited to hear that the plans for the new center also include a basketball court!
