111th Anniversary of Philippine Independence!

Today in Council, I presented a resolution with Councilmember Huizar to recognize Philippine Independence Day and the contributions that Filipino Americans have made to the City of Los Angeles. On this date in 1898, Philippine leader Emilio Aguinaldo declared independence of the Philippines from Spain, and today we celebrate independence and freedom in the Philippines and in Los Angeles. Our city is home to the largest number of Filipinos living outside the Philippines, and I am particularly honored to have Historic Filipinotown in my district. I was very pleased to see Philippine Consul General Mary Jo Bernardo Aragon in Council Chambers this morning. Mabuhay!
