Government 101

As Council President, one of my goals is to help develop grassroots leaders that can advocate for the betterment of their neighborhoods. With this in mind, I launched Los Angeles City Government 101 with Mayor Villaraigosa in 2006 to increase understanding of how residents can influence the legislative process. This year’s workshop will be held on Wednesday, August 6 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. We will meet on the 4th Floor in the Media Room at City Hall, which is located at 200 N. Main Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012. The following topics will be discussed:

- Role of the Mayor, Controller, City Attorney, and City Council
- City Council meetings and agendas
- The City legislative process
- The relationship between city, state, and federal government
- How residents can influence the legislative process

The workshop is open to the public and will be offered in English, Spanish, and Korean. Please RSVP by Wednesday, July 30 by emailing my staff member Yolanda at Y.Flores@lacity.org or calling 213-473-7013. We hope to see you there!
