The fire has consumed more than 800 acres of green space. In addition to evacuations, freeway closures, and bad air quality, the communities adjacent to Griffith Park may feel another effect: wildlife who have lost habitat. The Los Angeles Department of Animal Services is warning residents that the fires have displaced wild animals from Griffith Park, who will be migrating to new areas in search of water and shelter. Displaced animals that are uninjured and do not appear to have been orphaned should be left alone. Injured, sick, and orphaned animals should be reported to the L.A. Animal Services at (888) 452-7381. For general information on dealing with wildlife, see this.
